Mistral AI launches Workflows, an orchestration layer for production AI

Mistral AI has released Workflows, an orchestration layer for enterprise AI. Developers write processes in Python and publish them to Studio with full tracking, auditing and the ability to pause for human approval. ASML, La Banque Postale and CMA-CGM already use it for critical operations.

Mistral AI has announced the public preview of Workflows, an orchestration layer for enterprise AI that lets teams run AI processes in production with the reliability, visibility and fault tolerance that critical business processes require.

Why production AI differs from prototypes

Companies have access to powerful models but don't know how to run them in production. The problems are familiar and show up everywhere: processes work in a notebook but fail silently on a server without a trace; multi-step operations don't survive a network timeout; there is no built-in way to insert human approval mid-process; and nothing tracks what happens after deployment.

Today, companies have to assemble an orchestration layer by hand from separate pieces: different tools for inference, agents, connectors and observability, each with its own interface and format. All of it has to be stitched together manually, which takes months of work.

How Workflows works

A developer writes a workflow in Python. It can then be published to Le Chat so that non-technical people in the organization can run it. Every step is tracked and audited in Studio.

Key capabilities:

  • Durability — a workflow survives timeouts and network failures thanks to built-in error handling
  • Human-in-the-loop — a built-in pause for human approval (`wait_for_input()` is a single line)
  • Full observability — a complete execution history, with the ability to drill into the details of every step
  • Fast path to production — from idea to live process in days, not months

Workflows is built into Studio, so orchestration and its components (inference, agents, connectors) were designed from the start to work together.

Examples in the field

Mistral customers already use Workflows for critical operations.

Cargo release automation. Global logistics runs on paperwork. A single cargo release can involve customs declarations, dangerous goods classification, safety checks and regulatory checks across different jurisdictions. A missed step means a delay at the port and a compliance violation. The workflow validates incoming documents against customs rules, looks for anomalies, flags anything that needs human approval, waits for sign-off, then releases the cargo. The key is a single line, `wait_for_input()`. The system pauses, waits for the reviewer as long as necessary without consuming compute, sends them a notification, then resumes from the same point. Studio records the full execution history.

Compliance document review. KYC review is currently manual, monotonous and expensive. A single customer can require extracting identity documents, checking against sanctions lists and PEP databases, cross-checking requirements by jurisdiction, and producing a structured risk assessment with supporting evidence. Done by hand, this takes an analyst hours. With Workflows the whole process takes minutes, and Studio shows each step as a structured timeline that can be drilled into.

What this means

Mistral has crossed an important threshold: AI orchestration is becoming a business platform rather than a tool for LLMOps engineers. Companies that used to say "we have no LLMOps specialists" can now hand developers a ready-made layer with built-in reliability, visibility and human approval. That shifts the conversation from "let's experiment" to "let's run it in production."
