Moore Threads: Chinese Hardware Finally Learns to Write Code

Chinese company Moore Threads has unveiled AI Coding Plan, a development environment that runs exclusively on domestic technology. It is built on MTT S5000 graphics cards and the GLM-4.7 model, optimized by the SiliconFlow engine. This is not just another service: it is an attempt by China to prove its chips can handle heavy code generation without NVIDIA. While the world debates sanctions, Moore Threads is building a vertically integrated ecosystem in which software and hardware come from the same house. It is an important step toward technological sovereignty and may change the rules of the game in China's domestic market. *Meta is designated an extremist organization and banned in Russia.

While the whole world watches NVIDIA's latest quarterly report, something more down-to-earth but critically important for the industry is happening in China. Moore Threads has rolled out its AI Coding Plan project. This is not merely an attempt to build "its own Copilot".

It is full vertical integration, where the software hugs hardware made in the same place. At a time when access to Western chips is being cut off faster than you can update your drivers, news like this is a matter of survival, not just a marketing move. Let's look under the hood.

The system is built on MTT S5000 graphics cards. This is Moore Threads' flagship product, which the company positions as its answer to sanctions restrictions. But hardware without software is just an expensive space heater for the server room.

So the developers got their chips working with the GLM-4.7 model, which is currently considered one of the best in China for working with code. To keep it all from lagging, they added the SiliconFlow acceleration engine.

The result is a kind of technological sandwich in which every layer is made in China. Why does this matter? Chinese startups used to take Western work, wrap it in attractive packaging and call it a "domestic product".

With AI Coding Plan, the situation is different. Moore Threads is trying to prove that its GPU architecture can handle complex real-time computation. Writing code with a neural network is not only about logic, but also about a huge load on memory and compute units.

The fact that the company chose to launch a service specifically for developers points to a high level of confidence in the stability of its chips. Looking at the bigger picture, we are watching two parallel realities take shape in IT. In one, there are Microsoft, GitHub and Azure clouds.

In the other, Moore Threads, local models like GLM and homegrown frameworks. This split no longer looks like a temporary glitch; it is becoming the new normal. For an ordinary programmer in Shanghai or Beijing, it means getting a tool that cannot be blocked from Washington at the snap of a finger.

The irony is that sanctions meant to slow progress pushed the Chinese to teach their hardware to understand Python and C++ in record time. Of course, it is too early to say that the MTT S5000 will "kill" solutions from the "green giant". Optimizing software for a new architecture is a painful and lengthy process.

But Moore Threads has done the most important thing: it has created a precedent for a working "chip, model, service" stack. This is an important signal for the whole market: the era of total dependence on a single company is coming to an end, even if the road to an alternative is littered with bugs and configuration headaches. Bottom line: China has officially launched the first fully import-substituted service for programmers.

Will Moore Threads manage to convince developers to switch from their familiar tools to "homegrown" ones?
