China's market: AI application stocks climb against a falling tape
Even as China's main indices slipped at the open, the applied artificial intelligence sector stayed active. Zhangyue Technology shares rose for a third straight day, and Jiecheng Shares jumped more than 10%. Analysts see investor interest shifting from hardware to software. Chipmakers and optical component makers are losing value, while AI service developers, alongside the energy and automotive sectors, are emerging as new market drivers. The moves point to steady demand for embedding neural networks in consumer products.

China's stock market is showing a classic capital rotation: while the main indices opened the trading day in the red, the applied artificial intelligence sector is holding up better than expected. The shift in investment flows points to a fundamental rethink of where value is actually growing in the AI ecosystem. The Shanghai Composite fell 0.1%, the Deep Component Index dropped 0.17%, and ChiNext closed 0.24% below its open — reasonable declines for a volatile Chinese market. But these figures hide a more interesting story about investors reordering their priorities.
Zhangyue Technology completed a third straight day of gains, and Jiecheng Shares surged more than 10% in a single session. These companies, which build AI applications and services, operate in a very different mode from traditional technology manufacturers. Their success against falling indices does not look like chance or short-term speculation. Rather, it reflects a broad repricing by investors of which companies in the AI value chain are the real beneficiaries of the technological shift. Somewhere in the market's subconscious sits the understanding that hardware and components are a necessity, but applications are the driving force.
Against that backdrop, the slide in semiconductor makers looks logical. Chipyuan and Canshin fell more than 2%, and Light Library Technology lost over 1%. These companies depend on demand for processors, microcontrollers and optical components used in AI infrastructure. But if demand for AI solutions themselves slows or changes shape, the value of silicon is repriced accordingly. The Chinese market has clearly run this calculation. Investors are gradually moving away from the idea that simply having chips guarantees profit. Instead, they are shifting capital to companies that turn those chips into money through useful applications and services.
At the same time, the energy and automotive sectors are posting healthy gains. Henan Energy halted at the limit and Jianghuai Motors rose above 3% — these are not random moves. Both industries intersect with AI: factory automation, power distribution optimization, driverless systems and intelligent consumption management. These sectors benefit from deploying neural networks in their operations, which confirms a broader trend: AI is ceasing to be a separate industry and is becoming an embedded technology for the whole economy.
The shift in interest from hardware to applications signals a maturing market. The first wave of AI investment focused on infrastructure: everyone had to pour money into GPUs, data centers and optical cables. But investors now grasp a truth every venture capitalist knows: technology on its own is just a tool. The money is made by those who build products people want to use. Companies developing AI services for consumers and businesses sit exactly where consumer value is created.
The Chinese market is sending a clear signal: the era of speculating on AI hardware supply is drawing to a close, and the era of real application monetization is only beginning. That means the entry price for investors in this sector is becoming fairer, and the prospects more real.
