WordPress.com Launches AI Agents That Write and Publish Blog Posts on Their Own

WordPress.com now lets AI agents write and publish posts on their own. The agent picks headlines, meta descriptions, tags and images, running the entire editorial cycle without an author. The platform powers 40% of websites on the internet, so the potential reach of machine-written content is enormous.

First, AI learned to help edit text. Now it takes over the whole process, from the first word to the "Publish" button. WordPress.com, the hosting platform from Automattic, has announced AI agents that can autonomously create and publish blog content. The feature is built directly into the editor: the user names a topic or sets parameters, the agent produces a finished piece and, if given permission, publishes it right away. Human involvement becomes optional.

WordPress is not just another website. The platform underpins more than 40% of all sites on the web, with hundreds of millions of domains behind it, from personal diaries to corporate media. That means a tool with auto-publishing capability could change the character of internet content on a planetary scale. If even a few percent of these sites start using agent-driven autoposting, the volume of machine-generated text on the web could grow by orders of magnitude within months.

The new agents do more than generate text. The tools can run the full editorial cycle: choosing SEO-friendly headlines, adding meta descriptions, attaching images, setting categories and tags, and scheduling publication. In effect, this is everything a content desk editor does, automated from idea to search-engine indexing.

For businesses doing content marketing, this looks like a dream: daily publishing without hiring editors. For SEO agencies, it is a way to scale production without a proportional increase in headcount. For a solo blogger, it is a chance to avoid burnout by delegating the routine.

But there is a flip side. Automated content at industrial scale is a long-standing nightmare for search engines. Google has spent years fighting low-quality text farms that churn out thousands of meaningless pages for traffic. AI agents operating through a legitimate platform with a global audience are a fundamentally new level of the problem. If content is technically correct, well structured and optimized for search, it becomes harder and harder to tell apart from human writing. Search algorithms and readers will have to adapt.

This is part of a broader industry trend. Dozens of companies are moving toward agentic systems that perform multistep tasks without human intervention. WordPress.com is doing the same for publishing, one of the most widespread activities on the internet. The shift from "AI as a tool" to "AI as an author" is happening faster than many expected.

Automattic has been steadily integrating AI into the WordPress ecosystem for several years. Jetpack AI offered autocompletion and rewriting of passages. Now the company is moving to a full agentic architecture: the system does not just suggest options, it carries the task through to the result on its own.

The barrier to entry for web publishing has become practically zero. A regular blog used to require time, writing skills or a budget for authors. Now an account and an idea of what you want to talk about are enough.

The main question is not technical but about the ecosystem: will the original human voice keep its value when machine content becomes the norm rather than the exception.
